This page explains what you can do with material published on nomnes.com. The short version: our articles are all rights reserved, quoting them with credit is welcome, and sharing a link never needs permission.
Our articles and original images
Unless a page says otherwise, the text, original graphics and illustrations on this site are © nomnes.com, all rights reserved. That covers the whole archive, including the Web3 explainers in Tech, the market commentary in Business, the visa and policy coverage in Info, the developer notes in Code and the travel pieces in Trip.
What you can do without asking
You can quote a short excerpt from one of our articles in your own reporting, research, newsletter, social post or teaching material. A few sentences is fine; most of an article is not. Credit Nomnes as the source, link to the original article, and don’t trim the quote in a way that changes its meaning.
Sharing a link to an article, with or without its headline and a short description, needs no permission at all.
What needs permission
Ask us in writing before you republish a whole article or a large part of one, publish a translation, use our original images or illustrations, or use our content in anything commercial, such as a paid newsletter, an app, a course or a dataset. The same goes for collecting our content with automated tools beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, and for using it to train or fine-tune machine-learning models.
Nothing here limits what you’re allowed to do under fair use, fair dealing or similar exceptions in the law that applies to you.
Material that isn’t ours
Not everything on our pages belongs to us. Articles quote and embed posts from X, link to research and official documents, and sometimes show logos, screenshots or images supplied by companies or licensed from others. That material belongs to its owners and isn’t covered by the permissions above. If an article credits an image or quote to someone else, ask them about reuse.
If you believe something on Nomnes uses your work without permission, email [email protected] with the page URL and details of your work. We’ll review it promptly and remove or credit the material if that’s the right outcome.
Website software and theme
Nomnes runs on WordPress, free software released under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. Our theme, New Digital Pager, is also licensed GPL-2.0-or-later. It’s based on Digital Newspaper by BlazeThemes, which builds on the Underscores starter theme by Automattic. You can use, study, change and redistribute that code under the terms of the GPL. Plugins used on the site are licensed by their own authors.
The GPL applies to code only. It doesn’t extend to our articles, images, name or logo, which stay under the terms on this page.
Our name and logo
The Nomnes name and logo identify this site. You’re welcome to use the name to refer to us accurately, for example when crediting a quote or linking to a story. Please don’t use the name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse, sponsor or work with you or your product, and ask before reproducing the logo itself.
Asking for permission
Email [email protected] and tell us what you’d like to use (article links or image URLs), where it will appear and whether the use is commercial. Including those details up front usually gets you a faster answer. We’re generally happy to approve non-commercial and educational uses that credit and link back to us.
